Austin Residence
Project Description:
The design of an entertainment pavilion was conceived as a floating "entity" transforming itself during the seasons as a climatological response to the different weather conditions. In Spring and early Fall, it sheds off the multi-sliders inside pockets and the building becomes a covered patio. In Winter, the building captures the Southern light and heat, warming up the interior by the use of heavy mass. During the hot and arid summers, the pavilion unfolds a series of louvers to protect indoor spaces from desiccating heat. Fresh air is drawn from operable windows near the reflection pool, using water as a source of evaporative cooling.
